A Community Applying Scripture

Scripture: James 1:22-25

Scripture Memory:  James 1: 22, 25

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  . . . whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Journey:  So that we can be faithful in applying Scripture, today we will take the time to go back and think more carefully on a couple of themes from previous weeks of the series, “The Church Is To Be A Community . . .”

Praying for you to be blessed,

Will (for the pastors)

A Community Of Sacrificial Compassion

Scripture1 John 3:14-20

Scripture Memory1 John 3:17-18

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Journey: We’ll think today about how Christ’s mission for us as His people includes spreading the Gospel through words and through sacrificial deeds. If you had to measure your own performance in sharing the Gospel with others which of these two (words or deeds) would you say is your natural strength?

I think as we’ll see today as we look in 1 John that our words should follow our deeds in terms of priority – not the other way around – because that is what shows we’re the real deal.

May His glory shine among us,

Will (for the pastors)
